1 Corinthians 15:53-55 (NLT) For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies. Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
I spent last evening in a youth service with grieving young people. The young girl killed in a horrible tragedy had touched many and her kindness rippled through the crowd as many shared of her character even at the tender age of 16. Their sobs racked my heart. Why God? The grief counselors from the local high school were there – all believers – they talked with some, embraced others tightly and prayed with those who requested it. I was moved by the Presence of God in the midst of such sorrow and heartache. Hugging her mother, I prayed peace and strength walking through this week into her new normal. I could see the Hand of God that covered her sister, also in attendance, though wounded – she will heal with time. When death comes it leaves a mark on the earth and begins a war. The enemy would like to steal, kill and destroy each and every teenager with the lie that God doesn’t love them, doesn’t care and thoughtless killed their loved one. It is not true. God never intended for us to die but live forever with Him. It doesn’t make sense when all we know are the pleasures and goodness of this world that there is a place far more superior awaiting us.
I have prayed about this loss greatly. It has touched me as a mother not only in sympathy and sorrow for this girl’s mother. It has entered our home as our own daughter is gripped in a spiritual war between the Goodness of God and the lie of the enemy. First – it is okay to question God. He is above human reasoning and knows our finite understanding. He doesn’t judge us but rather allows us to come to Him broken beyond repair. The Lord will be our healer though the hurt may last a lifetime – there will one day be an end. This young woman is a believer. She had accepted Jesus as her Savior and now she is with Him. In that moment of being swept away into the awaiting Arms of Jesus – she became a forever friend.
If you have lost someone close to you unexpectedly or even expectedly, you can understand this war waged deep within the human soul. People spend most of their time trying to avoid death at all costs. Our void is great, but God is greater. I used to envision these family members and close friends worshipping and dancing before the Lord. My grandparents enjoyed square dancing so that is what they do. The Williamson’s, spiritual grandparents, are doing the jig that church folk do in celebration. There are others and it keeps growing. In order to be reunited with them, I must press in to Jesus and not push Him away when death comes calling. Not my death, but that of those I love. I must grab hold of faith and embrace hope with unwavering confidence that God loves me and He is good to me even when so hard to comprehend. But this is the new revelation that I have been given by God and I am pretty excited about it. When I worship God, I am united with them again. I can enter the Presence of God and be with them in my worship. Why? Because that is our destiny in God through Christ Jesus. To rid ourselves of these hurt, broken, dysfunctional dying bodies and to worship Him in all His Beauty.
The enemy wants to steal our voice, silence prayers, stop our praise and end our worship in the midst of great loss because He knows that if we stay the course and continue in our faith – we will spend eternity with our forever friends. Worship draws us together. Worship keeps us strong. It is our greatest weapon in destroying the lies of the enemy meant to destroy us. My daughter can hang out with her best friend every time she presses into worship for their souls will be in unison together before God.
Are you missing a loved one today? Do you have a forever friend that you just want to spend a few more minutes with? Worship. Tune out this world and turn to the Lord. Press into His Presence and prophecy victory through your worship. Your worship will connect you with the One Who Loves You Most and the one you miss the most. God is good! Even in what is meant to give Him Glory and Honor – His Goodness comes shining through! Thank you Jesus for opening the door to Heaven for us here on the earth!
Revelation 21:3-5 (NLT) I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.”
