Forever Friends

1 Corinthians 15:53-55 (NLT) For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies. Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die,   this Scripture will be fulfilled:  “Death is swallowed up in victory.   O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” I spent last evening in a youth service with grieving young people. The young girl killed in a horrible tragedy had touched many and her kindness rippled through the crowd as many shared of her character even at the tender age of 16. Their sobs racked my heart. Why God? The grief counselors from the local high school were there – all believers – they talked with some, embraced others tightly and prayed with those who requested it. I was moved by the Presence of God in the midst of such sorrow and heartache. Hugging her mother, I prayed peace and strength walking through this week into her new normal. I could

Burn it All

I Kings 19:19-21 (NLT) So Elijah went and found Elisha son of Shaphat plowing a field. There were twelve teams of oxen in the field, and Elisha was plowing with the twelfth team. Elijah went over to him and threw his cloak across his shoulders and then walked away. Elisha left the oxen standing there, ran after Elijah, and said to him, “First let me go and kiss my father and mother good-bye, and then I will go with you!” Elijah replied, “Go on back, but think about what I have done to you.” So Elisha returned to his oxen and slaughtered them. He used the wood from the plow to build a fire to roast their flesh. He passed around the meat to the townspeople, and they all ate. Then he went with Elijah as his assistant. Are you all in today? What is keeping you from doing what God has created and called you to do? Are you frustrated with faith? Are you considering letting go of hope? May I pose a question before you run off? Have you burned the past? Are you still on Plan A? Are you follo

Glory Stories

GIVING GLORY TO GOD REMINDS US THAT HE IS A GOOD GOD, WHO IS GOOD TO US. Bible Reading of the Day: Read Mark 7:31-37. Verse of the Day:  “Glory and honor to God forever and ever. He is the eternal King, the unseen one who never dies; he alone is God” (1 Timothy 1:17). Frank and his friend Jarrod sat together at the table as Frank’s mom set bowls of steaming soup in front of them. “I don’t like this kind of soup!” Alicia, Frank’s little sister, whined. “I’m sorry, Alicia,” Mom said, “but this is what we’re having for lunch.” Alicia stopped whining, but she wore a grouchy look on her face. Later, as the four of them were finishing their lunch, Alicia started whining again. “I don’t want to take a nap today,” she said. “I’m too big to take naps.” Frank and Jarrod exchanged smiles. “It sounds like you really need a nap, Alicia,” Frank said. “Do not!” Alicia answered sullenly. “That’s a really grouchy look on your face, Alicia,” Mom said. She winked at Frank. “Maybe it’s time fo

Cucumbers and Berries

WE WILL REAP WHAT WE SOW. Bible Reading of the Day: Read Galatians 6:7-10. Verse of the Day:  “Don’t get tired of doing what is good” (Galatians 6:9). Lisa strode into the barn and flopped onto a bale of hay. Her mother was filling a bucket with water from the faucet in the corner. “Hi, Lisa,” Mom said cheerily. “What have you been up to?” Lisa watched her mom work for a moment before answering. She wore a sulky look. “Sharon doesn’t want to come to my birthday party this year.” “She doesn’t?” Mom said. Lisa shook her head. “She says she’s supposed to go somewhere else. But I think she just doesn’t want to come.” “Is this the same Sharon who gave you that sweater she knitted herself last year?” Mom asked. She set the bucket on the floor and filled a second bucket. Lisa’s expression grew even darker. “Yes,” she said. She had hoped her mom had forgotten that, but Mom never seemed to forget anything. Lisa had unwrapped Sharon’s sweater and started laughing and making fun of the

Can the Garbage

Bible Reading:  Philippians 4:8 Fix your thoughts on what  is  true and honorable and right. Philippians 4:8 BORIS, a big black horsefly, was starving. He buzzed around the outside of the house, banging up against the windows, looking for a hole to get in. He wanted to get inside so he could feast on scraps and crumbs lying around in the kitchen. But the house was locked up tight, and the famished horsefly was getting desperate. As Boris circled the house again, he spied the garbage can in the backyard. Flying closer, his eyes bugged out with delight. On the grass next to the garbage can was a big hunk of moldy lunch meat that had been thrown away earlier in the day. Boris swooped down and started eating. It was delicious, so he stuffed himself. Even when he thought he couldn’t eat any more, he still kept munching away. When Boris tried to fly away, he was too bloated to get off the ground. He cranked his wings up to full speed, but he was still too heavy to get airborne. He need

No Lie

Bible Reading:  Ephesians 4:25 Put away all falsehood and “tell your neighbor the truth. ” Ephesians 4:25 DO YOU ever wonder if it’s okay to tell a little white lie sometimes? You could just as easily ask, “Is it okay to put your hand on a red-hot burner sometimes?” or “Is it okay to step in front of a roaring freight train sometimes?” Truth is one of those absolute, always-right kind of things. Your job is to always tell the truth, because God always tells the truth. It’s never right or good to lie, not even sometimes, not even a little. Lying gets you into trouble because one lie usually leads to another. Lying also makes it difficult for others to trust you. But what if you’re embarrassed or scared? Is it okay to lie then? No. Lying is wrong because God is truth and because he has told us not to lie. Telling the truth can be tough at times-especially if you get embarrassed or punished for speaking truth. But it’s always better to do what is right, even when it isn’t easy. I
