Mengikuti Jejak Kristus :Menderita Bagi Kristus

Baca: Filipi 1:27-30

"Sebab kepada kamu dikaruniakan bukan saja untuk percaya kepada Kristus, melainkan juga untuk menderita untuk Dia," (Filipi 1:29)

Mengikuti jejak Kristus berarti harus mau menderita bagi Dia. Yesus berkata, "Setiap orang yang mau mengikut Aku, ia harus menyangkal dirinya, memikul salibnya dan mengikut Aku." (Matius 16:24). Menyangkal diri berarti pada saat dihadapkan pada dosa, dengan kesadaran penuh memutuskan tidak berbuat dosa dan lebih memilih melakukan kehendak Tuhan. Kita berani berkata tidak terhadap kenyamanan dan keinginan daging yang seringkali menjadi penghalang untuk hidup menurut kehendak Tuhan.

Orang yang menyadari akan statusnya sebagai 'ciptaan baru' di dalam Kristus akan bertekad untuk menanggalkan manusia lamanya dan terus mengenakan manusia baru, supaya tubuh dosa hilang kuasanya. "Jadi, karena Kristus telah menderita penderitaan badani, kamupun harus juga mempersenjatai dirimu dengan pikiran yang demikian, --karena barangsiapa telah menderita penderitaan badani, ia telah berhenti berbuat dosa--," (1 Petrus 4:1).

Namun banyak orang Kristen yang berusaha menghindari firman yang menyinggung tentang penyangkalan diri, ketaatan, pikul salib, ujian dan bayar harga. Yang mereka cari dan kejar-kejar adalah khotbah-khotbah hamba Tuhan yang hanya berbicara tentang kekayaan, kelimpahan, berkat dan mujizat. Akibatnya ketika menghadapi masalah, penderitaan dan teguran firman yang keras mereka langsung kecewa, lemah, putus asa, dan bahkan berani menyalahkan Tuhan.

Sebagai pengikut Kristus kita tidak dapat menghindarkan diri dari penderitaan, sebab selain kita dikaruniai percaya, juga dikaruniai menderita bagi Kristus (ayat nas). Mengapa penderitaan diijinkan Tuhan? Penderitaan adalah salah satu cara yang dipakai Tuhan untuk menegur dan menyadarkan kita agar berhenti berbuat dosa. Tuhan yesus meninggalkan teladan mengenai penderitaan secara badani. "Dan sekalipun Ia adalah Anak, Ia telah belajar menjadi taat dari apa yang telah diderita-Nya," (Ibrani 5:8), tapi Yesus tidak pernah berbuat dosa. Setiap penderitaan akan menghasilkan ketaatan dan menarik seseorang mendekat kepada Tuhan.

"Bahwa aku tertindas itu baik bagiku, supaya aku belajar ketetapan-ketetapan-Mu." (Mazmur 119:71)
