Berusaha Hidup Saleh

Baca: 2 Petrus 1:3-5

"Karena kuasa ilahi-Nya telah menganugerahkan kepada kita segala sesuatu yang berguna untuk hidup yang saleh oleh pengenalan kita akan Dia, yang telah memanggil kita oleh kuasa-Nya yang mulia dan ajaib." (2 Petrus 1:3)

Kebanyakan orang beranggapan bahwa hidup saleh di masa sekarang ini ibarat menegakkan benang basah, sesuatu yang mustahil dilakukan. Mengapa demikian? Karena dunia sudah begitu rusak dan penuh kejahatan di segala bidang kehidupan.

Apa itu hidup saleh? Kata saleh memiliki pengertian: taat, sungguh-sungguh menjalankan ibadah, suci dan beriman. Bagi orang-orang dunia menjalani hidup saleh mungkin hal yang mustahil, tetapi bagi orang percaya adalah sangat mungkin, karena Tuhan telah memberikan Roh kudus-Nya kepada kita dan menganugerahkan segala sesuatu yang berguna untuk hidup saleh (ayat nas).

Alkitab menyatakan bahwa Roh Kudus, disebut pula Roh Kebenaran, "...akan memimpin kamu ke dalam seluruh kebenaran;" (Yohanes 16:13). Oleh karena itu rasul Paulus menasihati, "Maksudku ialah: hiduplah oleh Roh, maka kamu tidak akan menuruti keinginan daging. Sebab keinginan daging berlawanan dengan keinginan Roh dan keinginan Roh berlawanan dengan keinginan daging--karena keduanya bertentangan--sehingga kamu setiap kali tidak melakukan apa yang kamu kehendaki." (Galatia 5:16-17).

Asal kita mau dipimpin oleh Roh Kudus setiap hari maka hidup saleh bukan sekedar impian, tapi bisa terwujud. Hidup saleh adalah sebuah perintah, bukan sekedar saran atau himbauan, karena itu kita harus berusaha dan berjuang sedemikian rupa. "...hendaklah kamu menjadi kudus di dalam seluruh hidupmu sama seperti Dia yang kudus, yang telah memanggil kamu, sebab ada tertulis: Kuduslah kamu, sebab Aku kudus." (1 Petrus 1:15-16).

Jadi hidup saleh adalah kehidupan yang mencerminkan karakter Kristus secara nyata. Sungguh, Tuhan kita adalah Tuhan yang sangat baik dan teramat baik, sebab ia bukan hanya memberikan perintah untuk hidup dalam kesalehan, namun Ia juga tahu persis sampai di mana batas kekuatan kita, karena itu Roh Kudus-Nya diutus untuk menyertai, menolong dan menuntun kita kepada segala kebenaran.

Terhadap orang-orang yang hidup dalam kesalehan Tuhan menganugerahkan janji-janji yang berharga dan besar.
