Belajar Menjadi Pendengar yang Lebih Baik

Bacaan Hari ini:
Amsal 20: 5 "Rancangan di dalam hati manusia itu seperti air yang dalam, tetapi orang yang pandai tahu menimbanya."


Jika Anda ingin doa Anda dijawab Tuhan, maka Anda perlu belajar untuk menjadi pendengar yang baik. Mengapa? Karena doa adalah percakapan. Meskipun Anda tidak mendengar suara Tuhan ketika Anda berdoa, Ia tetap memberi Anda Roh Kudus dan Kitab Suci untuk membantu Anda mengenal kehendak-Nya dan untuk mendorong Anda. Tetapi kebanyakan dari kita terlalu sibuk, dan kita terlalu banyak bicara sehingga kita tak bisa mendengar dan memahami apa yang Tuhan — dan yang orang lain — coba katakan kepada kita.

Anda mungkin menganggap Anda adalah pendengar yang baik. Namun ada perbedaan besar antara mendengar dan mendengarkan! Mendengar adalah getaran yang terjadi di dalam telinga Anda. Mendengarkan adalah cara Anda mengartikan getaran-getaran tadi yang terjadi di otak Anda. Sering kali saya mendengar istri saya, anak-anak saya, atau seseorang di gereja mengatakan sesuatu — tetapi saya tidak mendengarkan.

Berikut adalah empat tips untuk menjadi pendengar yang lebih baik.

1. Tahan diri Anda dari menghakimi dan mengkritik.
Jangan mengevaluasi sampai Anda sudah mendengar dan memahami segalanya. Saya akui hal ini tidak lazim dilakukan manusia. Ketika orang lain berbicara dan Anda mendengar sesuatu yang tidak Anda setujui, maka Anda tergoda untuk berkata, "Tunggu dulu! Berhenti dulu! Mari kita hadapi ini." Dan Anda tidak akan pernah melangkah lebih jauh. Sebaliknya, Anda perlu mendengar orang itu dahulu. Amsal 18:13 mengatakan, “Jikalau seseorang memberi jawab sebelum mendengar, itulah kebodohan dan kecelaannya."

2. Tetap tenang.
Jangan defensif. Alkitab berkata dalam Amsal 19:11, “Akal budi membuat seseorang panjang sabar dan orang itu dipuji karena memaafkan pelanggaran." Jika Anda sabar, maka Anda bijaksana. Anda harus sabar dengan orang yang kurang dewasa dan orang yang salah menilai Anda. Anda harus tetap tenang.

3. Jadilah pendengar yang aktif.
Anda menjadi pendengar yang baik dengan mengajukan pertanyaan-pertanyaa kreatif. Amsal 20: 5 mengatakan, “Rancangan di dalam hati manusia itu seperti air yang dalam, tetapi orang yang pandai tahu menimbanya." Ayat ini menggambarkan bagiamana hati manusia yang sebenar-benarnya. Seseorang yang pengertian akan mampu menarik orang lain lebih dekat dengan mengajukan pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang tepat.

4. Parafrase dan rangkum.
Untuk menjadi seorangpendengar yang baik, Anda harus mampu mengatakan kembali apa yang dikatakan lawan bicara Anda sebelum Anda mengatakan keperluan Anda. Sebelum Anda berbagi sisi cerita Anda, maka Anda perlu membiarkan orang lain tahu bahwa Anda memahami dari mana dia berasal. Parafrase kembali apa yang pernah mereka katakan kembali kepada mereka.

Renungkan hal ini:
- Niatkan hati untuk berlatih mendengarkan secara aktif di minggu ini. Apa bedanya dalam hubungan Anda?
- Bagaimana masing-masing poin dari renungan hari ini berlaku untuk kehidupan doa Anda?
- Bagaimana masing-masing poin tersebut bisa diterapkan dalam hal membaca Firman Tuhan?

Mendengarkan adalah sebuah keahlian. Dan jika Anda ingin kehidupan doa Anda efektif, dan juga di semua hubungan Anda- Anda harus mengasahnya.
