Forever Friends

1 Corinthians 15:53-55 (NLT) For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies. Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die,   this Scripture will be fulfilled:  “Death is swallowed up in victory.   O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” I spent last evening in a youth service with grieving young people. The young girl killed in a horrible tragedy had touched many and her kindness rippled through the crowd as many shared of her character even at the tender age of 16. Their sobs racked my heart. Why God? The grief counselors from the local high school were there – all believers – they talked with some, embraced others tightly and prayed with those who requested it. I was moved by the Presence of God in the midst of such sorrow and heartache. Hugging her mother, I prayed peace and strength walking through this week into her new normal. I could

It's Just A Piece of Paper!

A friend of mine got a phone call this morning. Not just any phone call. This phone call was one that she had been waiting for. It was from a potential employer. One that she had been hoping to work for. However, when she picked up the phone, the woman at the other end put a damper on her day. The woman thanked her for her application but she regretted to say that she did not get the job. When asked to elaborate as to why my friend did not get the job, the woman stated that although it seemed that my friend has a strong work ethic, and her abilities are excellent, there was someone else who was more qualified - they had a bachelors degree in the field in which she has applied and they had more experience in the workplace. This story has been played out time and time again over the past few weeks. It seems that the words "work at home" are equivalent to "has no experience" or "not good enough". Employers really need to realize that "work at home&q

Academic and Professional Ethics

Once a person has decided that they want to join the ranks of academia with the vision of bettering themselves and entering the professional world, the steps that they take while pursuing this vision become the code by which their future is built. The actions that are taken and the ideals which are formed during this academic tenure will often determine just how influential and respected a person can become in society, as well as the ethical code that they follow. The philosophy of ethics can be broken down into three categories; personal ethics, professional ethics and academic ethics. Personal ethics are the basic principles and values that oversee how we get along with each other. Society has dictated that good ethics include those which impact our experiences in a positive manner when interacting with others either in a social or business manner. Anything that is negative would not be considered as socially acceptable. Professional ethics are the personal and business behavior,

The Alarming Bed

Bryan Fall never could wake up on time to get ready for work. Every morning the alarm next to his bed rang loudly at 6:00 AM, but Bryan always turned his alarm off and slept much later than he should. His boss - Mr. Dan Dollar at the Bluntrust Bank warned Bryan that if he came in late one more time, he wouldn't hesitate to fire him. Dollar suspected Bryan needed a reliable alarm clock - one that would wake him up and stay awake. So he told Bryan about a business that had just opened up called "Alarm Beds", which sold beds that were built to wake up a person up at the right time and make him stay awake. Bryan took his boss' advice and drove to "Alarm Beds". As soon as he opened the door to the store, he was greeted by a chipper young lady with a squeaky voice, "Welcome to Alarm Beds. My name is Barbara. May I help you find the perfect bed that will wake you up?" Bryan asked her if she could show him some of their models. "We have a few mode
