Firman Tuhan Kunci Pertumbuhan Hidup

Baca: Mazmur 119:97-104

"Aku lebih berakal budi dari pada semua pengajarku, sebab peringatan-peringatan-Mu kurenungkan." (Mazmur 119:99)

Kekristenan itu lebih dari sekedar agama, melainkan sebuah hubungan dengan Tuhan; dan yang menjadi dasar sebuah hubungan adalah komunikasi yang baik. Tuhan berkomunikasi dengan kita dengan berbagai cara, terutama sekali melalui firman-Nya. Sementara, kita berkomunikasi dan Tuhan melalui doa-doa kita. Karena itu perlu sekali kita belajar mempertajam pendengaran kita akan suara Tuhan supaya komunikasi dua arah ini dapat berlangsung dengan baik.

Ketika kita tekun membaca dan merenungkan firman-Nya setiap hari kita bisa mengerti apa yang menjadi kemauan Tuhan, kehendak-Nya, isi hati-Nya dan jalan-jalan-Nya. Firman Tuhan adalah standar tertinggi dan mutlak untuk setiap bidang kehidupan orang percaya, sebab firman-Nya "...bermanfaat untuk mengajar, untuk menyatakan kesalahan, untuk memperbaiki kelakuan dan untuk mendidik orang dalam kebenaran." (2 Timotius 3:16).

Seperti bayi yang mendambakan susu dan membutuhkannya untuk dapat bertumbuh, kita pun harus memiliki rasa haus dan lapar akan firman Tuhan supaya iman kita dapat bertumbuh, sebab "...iman timbul dari pendengaran, dan pendengaran oleh firman Kristus." (Roma 10:17). Maka dari itu "...jadilah sama seperti bayi yang baru lahir, yang selalu ingin akan air susu yang murni dan yang rohani, supaya olehnya kamu bertumbuh dan beroleh keselamatan, jika kamu benar-benar telah mengecap kebaikan Tuhan." (1 Petrus 2:2-3).

Selain membawa kepada pertumbuhan iman firman Tuhan juga berfungsi sebagai pedang Roh. Tuhan Yesus telah mempraktekkan bagaimana Ia menang atas pencobaan di padang gurun dengan memfungsikan firman sebagai pedang Roh. Kita pun dapat menang atas pencobaan-pencobaan yang terjadi dengan cara yang sama, dengan memperkatakan firman dan mempraktekkannya. "Sebab Dia berfirman, maka semuanya jadi; Dia memberi perintah, maka semuanya ada." (Mazmur 33:9).

Tanpa mau menyediakan waktu untuk dengar-dengaran akan firman Tuhan setiap hari mustahil kerohanian seseorang mengalami pertumbuhan!
