Sanjungan Yang Melenakan

Baca: Kisah Para Rasul 14:8-20

"Maka datanglah imam dewa Zeus, yang kuilnya terletak di luar kota, membawa lembu-lembu jantan dan karangan-karangan bunga ke pintu gerbang kota untuk mempersembahkan korban bersama-sama dengan orang banyak kepada rasul-rasul itu." (Kisah 14:13)

Mengerjakan Amanat Agung Tuhan Yesus adalah tanggung jawab semua orang percaya, karena itulah "Merekapun pergilah memberitakan Injil ke segala penjuru, dan Tuhan turut bekerja dan meneguhkan firman itu dengan tanda-tanda yang menyertainya." (Markus 16:20). Ke mana pun hamba-hamba Tuhan pergi memberitakan Injil Roh Kudus menyertai dan turut bekerja. Di mana ada Roh Kudus sesuatu yang dahsyat pasti terjadi, perkara-perkara adikodrati dinyatakan: yang sakit disembuhkan, yang terbelenggu dibebaskan, yang buta pun dicelikkan, yang lumpuh berjalanlah!

Di Listra ada orang yang lumpuh kakinya sejak lahir. "Ia duduk mendengarkan, ketika Paulus berbicara. Dan Paulus menatap dia dan melihat, bahwa ia beriman dan dapat disembuhkan. Lalu kata Paulus dengan suara nyaring: 'Berdirilah tegak di atas kakimu!' Dan orang itu melonjak berdiri, lalu berjalan kian ke mari." (Kisah 14:9-10). Orang-orang pun kagum dan mengelu-elukan Paulus dan Barnabas, bahkan mereka menganggap keduanya dewa yang turun dari langit. Paulus disebutnya Hermes, dan Barnabas disebut Zeus! Mereka mengira bahwa yang melakukan mujizat adalah hamba Tuhan tersebut, tak mengerti bahwa yang mengerjakan semua mujizat itu sesungguhnya adalah Tuhan sendiri melalui kuasa Roh-Nya, sedangkan hamba Tuhan adalah alat-Nya.

Sanjungan manusia acapkali melenakan dan membuat orang lupa daratan. Ini berbahaya! Ada banyak pelayan Tuhan jatuh ketika mereka sedang 'di atas' karena tidak tahan dengan pujian, hormat dan sanjungan manusia. Memang sulit untuk tetap rendah hati dalam situasi seperti itu. Ketika dielu-elukan segeralah Paulus dan Barnabas lari ke tengah-tengah mereka dan berkata, "Hai kamu sekalian, mengapa kamu berbuat demikian? Kami ini adalah manusia biasa sama seperti kamu." (Kisah 14:15a). Di zaman sekarang tidak sedikit pelayan Tuhan yang justru membusungkan dada ketika namanya semakin dikenal oleh khalayak ramai.

Sanjungan adalah untuk Tuhan, jangan sekali-kali kita mencuri kemuliaan-Nya!
