Tak Haus Sanjungan Manusia

Baca: Markus 1:1-7

"Sesudah aku akan datang Ia yang lebih berkuasa dari padaku; membungkuk dan membuka tali kasut-Nyapun aku tidak layak." (Markus 1:7)

Injil Markus dibuka dengan kehadiran seorang tokoh yang bernama Yohanes Pembaptis: "...memakai jubah bulu unta dan ikat pinggang kulit, dan makanannya belalang dan madu hutan." (ayat 6). Bisa dikatakan ia adalah nabi pertama yang dilihat oleh umat Israel setelah sekian lama tidak ada nabi yang melayani di Israel. Jeda waktu antara kitab Maleakhi dengan kehadiran Yohanes Pembaptis ini adalah 400 tahun; selama kurun waktu tersebut tidak ada nabi, tidak ada firman Tuhan yang diberitakan, tidak ada pewahyuan.

Itulah sebabnya kehadiran Yohanes Pembaptis di padang gurun yang menyerukan: "Bertobatlah dan berilah dirimu dibaptis dan Allah akan mengampuni dosamu." (ayat 4), menjadi berita yang sangat mengejutkan dan menggemparkan. Tidaklah mengherankan jika kemudian "...datanglah kepadanya orang-orang dari seluruh daerah Yudea dan semua penduduk Yerusalem," (ayat 5). Semua orang dari seluruh penjuru negeri datang kepadanya dan memberi diri untuk dibaptis di sungai Yordan.

Sosok Yohanes Pembaptis menjadi perbincangan semua orang dan mendadak menjadi public figure alias terkenal. Apakah hal itu membuatnya bangga, membusungkan dada, dan kemudian menggunakan jurus aji mumpung? Tidak! Ketika para imam dan orang-orang Lewi bertanya, "'Siapakah engkau? Engkaukah nabi yang akan datang?'" Dengan jujur dan penuh kerendahan hati, Yohanes Pembaptis menjawab: "'Aku bukan Mesias. Akulah suara orang yang berseru-seru di padang gurun: Luruskanlah jalan Tuhan! seperti yang telah dikatakan nabi Yesaya.'" (Yohanes 1:19-23).

Popularitas tak membuat Yohanes Pembaptis lupa diri. Ia tetap menyadari siapa dirinya dan tahu apa tugas utamanya. Ia bukan Mesias dan hanya mempersiapkan jalan bagi Sang Mesias. "Aku membaptis dengan air; tetapi di tengah-tengah kamu berdiri Dia yang tidak kamu kenal, yaitu Dia, yang datang kemudian dari padaku. Membuka tali kasut-Nyapun aku tidak layak." (Yohanes 1:26). Tidak sedikit pelayan Tuhan dan hamba Tuhan yang justru sangat berambisi untuk menjadi terkenal dan ingin disanjung manusia.

Hanya Kristus yang berhak dan layak menerima pujian dan kemuliaan, kita ini hanya alat-Nya!
