The First and the Last

“And He laid His right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not: I am the First and the Last” Revelation 1:17

He was the First-begotten. He said of Himself, “Before Abraham was, I am.” And John the Baptist said, “He was before me.” “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God; the same was in the beginning with God.” He puts His right hand on us, that hand of power, and says in tenderest tones, “Fear not.” He draws us to Himself with that same hand and says, “Pillow your head upon My shoulder. Have no fear. You are Mine. I purchased you at a great price. Perfect love casts out fear.” He was First in His love for us when we were in sin. He is the Last One to forget or forsake us.

Blessed Lord, may we have that perfect love which casteth out all fear. Amen.
