Tidak Melayani Setengah-setengah

Baca: Markus 6:30-44

"Suruhlah mereka pergi, supaya mereka dapat membeli makanan di desa-desa dan di kampung-kampung di sekitar ini. Tetapi jawab-Nya: 'Kamu harus memberi mereka makan!'" (Markus 6:36-37)

Kisah Tuhan Yesus memberi makan lima ribu orang ini merupakan kisah yang tidak asing bagi kita semua. Setelah kembali dari tur pelayanan-Nya yang padat, para rasul berniat rehat sejenak untuk melepas lelah. Tetapi orang banyak terus mengikuti mereka. Melihat hal itu tergeraklah hati Tuhan Yesus oleh belas kasihan dan Ia pun mengajar banyak hal kepada mereka. Respon mereka sangat positif, tampak antusias mendengarkan pengajaran Kristus hingga hari sudah mulai malam.

Murid-murid Tuhan mengusulkan kepada Sang Guru agar orang banyak itu segera pergi membeli makanan karena tidak ada persediaan makanan yang dapat diberikan kepada mereka. Tetapi Tuhan menjawab, "'Kamu harus memberi mereka makan!'" (ayat nas). Dari pernyataan Tuhan ini kita dapat belajar bahwa Tuhan menghendaki murid-murid-Nya untuk memperhatikan kepentingan orang lain, bukan semata-mata berfokus kepada kepentingan diri sendiri, namun peka terhadap kebutuhan orang lain. "...janganlah tiap-tiap orang hanya memperhatikan kepentingannya sendiri, tetapi kepentingan orang lain juga." (Filipi 2:4). Inilah kasih yang sesungguhnya yaitu kasih yang diwujudkan melalui sebuah tindakan.

Memraktekkan kasih di tengah situasi yang sulit seperti sekarang ini adalah tidak mudah. Tuntutan kebutuhan hidup yang tinggi seringkali membuat orang menjadi sangat individualistis: "Boro-boro memikirkan penderitaan orang lain, untuk kepentingan diri sendiri saja tidak cukup!" Tidak sedikit orang tega mengorbankan orang lain demi kepentingan diri sendiri. Perintah Tuhan untuk memberi makan orang banyak ini juga mengajarkan kita bahwa untuk melayani jiwa-jiwa tidak bisa dilakukan dengan setengah-setengah. Melayani itu ada harga yang harus dibayar! Adakalanya kita harus berani berkorban: waktu, tenaga, pikiran dan materi (uang). Ketika rasul-rasul taat melakukan perintah Tuhan, mujizat terjadi!

Dalam segala perkara Tuhan pasti turut bekerja, karena itu lakukan dengan sungguh-sungguh bagian kita!
