Menjadi Orang Jujur (2)

Baca: Mazmur 50

"siapa yang jujur jalannya, keselamatan yang dari Allah akan Kuperlihatkan kepadanya." Mazmur (50:23b)

Kebanyakan orang cenderung berani berdusta atau berkata tidak jujur karena mereka lebih memilih untuk takut kepada manusia, sekedar menyenangkan hati orang lain, daripada takut kepada Tuhan. Mereka berpikir lebih mudah berdusta kepada Tuhan yang tak dilihatnya daripada berdusta di hadapan manusia yang terlihat secara kasat mata. Kalau sampai ketahuan berdusta di hadapan manusia resiko yang langsung diterimanya adalah malu, dimarahi, didamprat atau mungkin dipecat.

Cepat atau lambat setiap ketidakjujuran atau kebohongan pasti akan terungkap. Manusia mungkin saja tidak tahu dan bisa dikelabui dengan kebohongan kita, tetapi Tuhan yang duduk di atas takhta-Nya adalah Mahatahu, bahkan "...TUHAN menyelidiki segala hati dan mengerti segala niat dan cita-cita." (1 Tawarikh 28:9). Apa pun yang kita pikirkan, rancangkan, cita-citakan, Tuhan tahu secara persis. "Dan tidak ada suatu makhlukpun yang tersembunyi di hadapan-Nya, sebab segala sesuatu telanjang dan terbuka di depan mata Dia, yang kepada-Nya kita harus memberikan pertanggungan jawab." (Ibrani 4:13). Berhentilah berkata dusta, jadilah orang yang jujur, sebab "Orang yang dusta bibirnya adalah kekejian bagi TUHAN, tetapi orang yang berlaku setia dikenan-Nya." (Amsal 12:22).

Di masa sekarang ini dunia penuh dosa dan kejahatan yang begitu merajalela sehingga semakin sulit hidup dalam kejujuran. Haruskah orang percaya mengikuti arus dunia ini untuk hidup dalam ketidakjujuran? "...siapa yang ada di dalam Kristus, ia adalah ciptaan baru: yang lama sudah berlalu, sesungguhnya yang baru sudah datang." (2 Korintus 5:17). Sebagai ciptaan baru di dalam Kristus kita harus meninggalkan tabiat lama. Karakter lama harus kita buang dan hidup menurut pimpinan Roh Kudus.

Hidup menurut kehendak Tuhan berarti harus menjadi orang jujur. Rugikah hidup jujur? Daud menulis: "...orang-orang benar akan memuji nama-Mu, orang-orang yang jujur akan diam di hadapan-Mu." (Mazmur 140:14). Berhenti dari kebiasaan berdusta tidak mudah, tetapi dengan pertolongan Roh Kudus kita pasti bisa terlepas dari dusta asal ada kemauan dan tekad yang kuat.

"Menjauhi kejahatan itulah jalan orang jujur;" (Amsal 16:17)
